Multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is an extremely common disease in settings like prisons. According to the Atlanta health department, two homeless men got MDR-TB when they were in Fulton County Jail. Then, they ended up at a homeless shelter - the same homeless shelter that Occupy Atlanta is using as a home base. MDR-TB is curable, but requires about two years of antibiotics.
Or, you know, the CDC infected protestors with MDR-TB. That would be a MUCH SIMPLER explanation.
